1. Re-apply next year for the first semester (1st Fachsemester)
a) If you are missing ECTS credits (in Subject Knowledge 1 or Selection Criterion 2), you can use the time until the next application period to acquire them.
Please note that any additional ECTS credits must be earned in the upcoming winter term. In the following summer semester, the exams (usually scheduled in July) take place after the application deadline (typically in May).
- Winter semester: You can obtain the missing credits by enrolling in a Bachelor’s program (e.g., Mathematics). Only courses completed with an exam at a recognized university can be accepted.
- Summer semester: You may already attend some introductory courses from the Master’s program in Statistics. Some of these are also offered as Bachelor-level courses (e.g., Stochastik I in the Bachelor of Mathematics). If you are later admitted to the Master’s, these can be recognized. Please note that as a Bachelor student you are generally not allowed to take Master’s courses.
b) If your combined grade is below the cut-off, then admission will be difficult. The combined grade is calculated as follows:
- 70% = final grade from your previous degree
- 30% = grades from additional ECTS in Mathematics, Probability Theory, Statistics, Econometrics
For winter semester 2024/25, the required combined grade was better than 1.88. Since application numbers are rising, the NC threshold is expected to increase further.
2. Re-apply next year for the second semester (higher semester)
To apply directly for the second semester, you must prove:
- 30 ECTS credits that qualify you for admission, plus
- an additional 30 ECTS credits equivalent to courses of the Master’s in Statistics.
Language requirements: B1 level in both German and English.
3. Enrollment as Guest or Visiting Student (Gast-/Nebenhörer) to Earn Missing ECTS
- Guest students (Gasthörer): Attendance is possible, but exams cannot be taken.
- Visiting students (Nebenhörer): Limited to approximately 6 hours of courses per week. Since earning x ECTS usually requires about x/2 hours of coursework per week, this restriction may limit how many ECTS can be achieved.
