Course Information on “Advanced Biometric Methods” and “Statistical Methods for Small Sample Sizes”

As the courses of Ms. Rauch and Mr. Konietschke (“Advanced Biometric Methods” or “Statistical Methods for Small Sample Sizes”) will probably be conducted online in Summer 2020, students at HU cannot register for the courses at the first meeting. Therefore, please follow the following instructions:

HU students:

* send an eMail to uwe.schoeneberg@charite.de

* subject: Name of Course („Advanced Biometrical Methods“ or
„Statistical Methods for Small Sample Sizes“)
* include full name
* include student id (matrikelnummer)
* include eMail-Address

* you will get an activation eMail from support@cedis.fu-berlin.de
* follow the included instruction for you to get known to the
Blackboard System of Freie Universität
* this will make HU students known to the Blackboard System

FU students

* go to https://lms.fu-berlin.de/?mandant=fub

* Click button “Login mit FU-Account”

* Enter userid (NOT eMail-address)
* Enter password
* Click button Anmelden (register)

* this will make FU students known to the Blackboard System

BOTH: FU students AND HU students

* once you are known to the Blackboard System

* send an eMail to uwe.schoeneberg@charite.de

* subject: Name of Course („Advanced Biometrical Methods“ or
„Statistical Methods for Small Sample Sizes“)
* include full name
* include student id (matrikelnummer)
* include eMail-Address
* include that you have finished the registration process at Blackboard
System of Freie Universität

* you will be manually included to access the course material

Statistics graduate wins the Fürst Prize of the Federal Statistical Office

Kerstin Erfurth (center of the picture) completed her M.Sc. Statistics in 2018. At the same time, she was the first student who obtained the additional certificate “European Master Official Statistics (EMOS)” in Berlin. Now, she has been awarded the Fürst Prize of the Federal Statistical Office for outstanding scientific work related to official statistics. The excellent paper titled “Quality Assessment and Use of Simulated Geocoordinates in the Regional Analysis of the 2017 Bundestag Election” can be found at https://www.dropbox.com/s/vmdzjo13t5pfmh5/Erfurth_Masterarbeit_final.pdf?dl=0. Her EMOS internship was completed in the Office of Statistics Berlin/Brandenburg. She was there on election night and has produced current election cards for Berlin. Now, she has a permanent job at the Statistical Office. More information about EMOS can be found at the following URL: https://www.wiwiss.fu-berlin.de/fachbereich/vwl/ls_rendtel/EMOS/index.html.

EMOS Core Module “Official Statistics”

EMOS-Core Module “Official Statistics“ is offered this Winter term as a one week intensive course!

The European Master of Official Statistics (EMOS) is an additional certificate which can be achieved with a special profile of your study. The program offers interesting internships and master thesis projects. This extra certificate will be useful for your future carrier. The mandatory EMOS Core Module on Official Statistics (Module 8 (Nutzung der Amtlichen Statistik in den Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaften WPM 223)) is offered this winter term as a one-week intensive course starting at Monday 11. Nov. 10h in HS 112 Spandauer Str.

Enroll the course at https://moodle.hu-berlin.de/course/view.php?id=90782.

Important note: At the moment the future of this module and the EMOS-participation is unclear. Those who are really interested should enroll in the EMOS core module this term!

You find more information about EMOS at:  http://www.wiwiss.fu-berlin.de/fachbereich/vwl/ls_rendtel/EMOS/index.html

Jour Fixe Master Statistics

The fourth Jour Fixe will take place on Monday April 29th at 5:30 p.m. in room  22 (HU Berlin, Spandauer Str. 1). The Jour Fixe offers a great opportunity for informal exchange between lectures and students. Especially regarding the introduction of new specialization areas such as “Data Science” and general feedback about the courses and the structure of the master program.

Afterwards, at around 6:30 p.m., the new professor for statistics, Sonja Greven will talk about Statistical methods for functional and object data

Semester Break Training Courses

Traning courses during the semester break are offered by FU:stat. The courses are concerned with programming (R, SPSS) and hypothesis testing and more.

The complete course list with additional information can be found here.
