We are delighted that you have chosen to pursue the inter-university Master’s Programme in Statistics in Berlin. This webpage provides important information for students who have received an official admission letter for the winter semester 2025/26. Please note that the content will be updated from time to time, as some details are still pending.
First Steps After Admission
Once you receive your official admission letter, you will also be informed which of the three participating universities – Humboldt Universität zu Berlin (HU), Freie Universität (FU), or Technische Universität (TU) – will serve as your primary institution. We strongly recommend that you also complete secondary enrollment at the other two participating universities.

To create a Moodle account, you initially only need a valid email address. However, once your university email becomes available, please use that address for all communication and access.

Mathematics Preparatory Course (in person)

This course provides a review of essential mathematical concepts relevant to your master’s studies. Topics include:
- Basic Matrix Algebra (e.g., systems of linear equations, determinants, eigenvalues)
- Differential Calculus (for real and multivariate functions, Taylor series)
- Optimization (with and without constraints)
- Integral Calculus
The course is open to all Master’s students and will be taught in English.
Statistical Programming Languages (R)
This course offers an introduction to R, a widely used programming language in statistics. Topics include:
- Basics of R and its environment
- Descriptive statistics and data visualization
- Regression analysis
- Programming fundamentals: algorithm design, debugging, and command search
The goal is not only to teach R syntax but also to enable students to write programs independently and interpret statistical results correctly.

- Participation is limited to 30 students.

- If demand exceeds capacity, participants will be selected by lottery.
- The course can be credited towards the Master’s program in Statistics.
